Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, or simply Rogue One, is an upcoming 2016 American epic space opera film directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy, from an idea by visual effects supervisor John Knoll. It will be the first stand-alone Star Wars Anthology film, and the ninth theatrical feature film in the series. It will also be the first live-action theatrical Star Wars film not scored by long-time series collaborator John Williams, with Alexandre Desplat serving as composer. Set in the Star Wars universe shortly before the events of A New Hope, the story will center on a group of Rebel spies on a mission to steal the plans for the Galactic Empire's new weapon, the Death Star. It will star Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Jiang Wen, and Forest Whitaker.

The film is produced by Lucasfilm and will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Principal photography began at Elstree Studios, near London during early August 2015. Rogue One will be released on December 16, 2016.

Following the foundation of the Galactic Empire, a wayward band of Rebel fighters come together to carry out a desperate mission: to steal the plans for the Death Star before it can be used to enforce the Emperor's rule.

Hmm. When she said her name it sounded suspiciously similar to Jan Ors. And the bearded guy with her later on is dressed in a suspiciously similar jacket to Kyle Katarn's Dark Forces outfit... Just saying.

Also, I never really figured out how the news feed works here on SWGB Heaven and I couldn't exactly submit news either since I guess I am not a moderator as well. I sent Crazed Ewok an E-mail talking about it and wondered if he can post it up there on the feed. I thought this was news worthy, so why not?

So, her name is Jyn Erso. Yeah, definitely a nod there. And maybe Vader chops off her hand. <_<

Also, a lot of speculation that she is the future Mrs. Skywalker.

Holy crap! I forgot to tell Dallows it's already done!

EDIT: Okay, So I may have accidentally sent an email requesting the same thing Crazed already did for me. I thank Crazed Ewok for sending the word out for me and General Dallows, My apologies for doing that. I fell asleep after I sent that to Crazed and completely forgot. Let's just say I had a "brain glitch" and was kinda out of it.

I got chills watching the trailer and reading this shortly after.

"'The action sequences filmed are unknown, but there was work pitching the different ways Darth Vader could kill rebels on a battlefield with the Force and his lightsaber. The storyboard “pitches” showed decapitated rebels, people being dismembered by Vader throwing his sword, levitating bodies to make human shields, and so on. The art was more violent than what we’ve seen Darth Vader do on screen before.'"

Just watched the trailer and at first I thought the one Rebel officer was William Sadler--but on second look, I don't think it's him and he's not listed on IMDb. I'm not generally a fan of crossovers, but Luther Sloan in Star Wars could be pretty cool.

This has classic stormtroopers, Star Destroyers and the Death Star, which automatically makes it a contender for the greatest Star Wars movie ever made.
Hopefully, my proper blackshirt uniform will be finished by the time this one comes out.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, I also don't mind if you guys have any other interesting leaks about the subject and post them here in this discussion. I also am still doubting the connection between Rogue One and the Rebels series, but since they're both owned and published by Disney (I think,) anything's possible...

I'd have thought that's who they cast Laura Dern to play in Episode 8. Honestly, I think they'd be better off keeping the Story films separate from the main Episodes.

I do like the backlash against the notion that Erso is Rey's mother. "Just because she's brown-haired, white, and female doesn't automatically make her Rey's mother."

Which is a valid point, since... well, the only other brown-haired Caucasian females that featured as main cast members are mother and daughter. A daughter that remembers her mother... despite the mother dying about five minutes after giving birth. But the other twin she gave birth to first has absolutely no memory. <_<

Given the new canon's track record for originality, this will probably be a rewritten Dark Forces in the same way TFA was a rewritten ANH. Such a thing wouldn't be entirely negative -in fact, we may even see an epic movie- but if they're going to reskin Dark Forces, they could've brought Kyle Katarn back into canon instead of leaving one of the EU's coolest characters to rot away in irrelevance.

Bringing back Kyle Katarn means possible royalties. Yes, the character was owned by Lucasfilm, which is now part of Disney... but I think there are hiccups in there. For example, the character of Tom Paris on Star Trek: Voyager was originally going to be the character of Nicholas Locarno from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Each man's backstory is he did something reckless, got someone killed, and got cashiered. Except, in Locarno's case, he got one person killed, tried to hide it with his fellow teammates, but then took full responsibility. Paris' backstory is he tried to cover it up, got caught, and then went to prison. Paris is redeemable, Locarno is not... according to the producers.

Of course, the real answer is using Locarno means paying the writers of that episode royalties for each episode Paris appears him... meaning his tenure as a main cast member would be exactly one contract term. Not sure if something like that is in play with Katarn... but...
