I (and I think also RJ) think that JJ values mysteries and references to other works above everything else.
TFA was (as folks have said) basically a remake of ANH. It's a good one, but I don't find it very interesting.
I think the mysteries that it introduces (Who are Rey's parents? Who is Snoke?), while very fun to speculate about (JJ is good at that part), don't have answers that actually affect the story. Snoke is the palpatine-analogue, so we already know his character and how he'll behave. Rey's parents clearly don't have anything to do with the person she is at the time of the film because she can barely remember them and they didn't raise her.
In response, TLJ deliberately rejects Star Wars traditions (it's sort of an anti-reference), and resolves both of the mysteries by showing how unimportant the answers are (Who is Snoke? Dead. Who are Rey's parents? Irrelevant to who she is now.)
If you don't think either of those things was a flaw of TFA, it is very understandable that you would not like TLJ.
