So, after the creative debacle--and financial windfall--that was the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, whither goest the Star Wars films next? Rangers of the New Republic was recently spiked, though since that was supposed to be the Gina Carano vehicle, that's no great shock (and according to Kennedy, basically no scripts were written anyway so... glad to see LFL's creative plan is still "wing it; these f**king nerds will buy anything under the brand anyway"). And no, I'm not interested in discussing her removal from LFL or gallivanting off to make space movies with Ben Shapiro.
That leaves Mando Season 3 and Book of Boba Fett as the only really confirmed projects, since TV is the hotspot for Star Wars now. The spinoffs were killed off bySolo's commercial failure (despite my best efforts; I saw it three times in theaters because I actually liked it). It seems like the games are getting pitched, the hype gauged... and the work begins or is cancelled depending on that. And if it does begin, it's cancelled because it can't get out before the hype fades.
So, at the end of the Sequels, Palpatine was totally and absolutely killed off for absolute realsies this time, absolutely. Rey is The Last Jedi and has risen in the name of Skywalker. To do... uh... stuff? We don't actually know what she's doing next, since we see her burying lightsabers on Tatooine and committing identity theft with consent of the specters of her "victims." The First Order and Final Order were obliterated... until we need to build up new villains as the super hard-core ideologues who survived the fall of both empires. The New Republic was basically wiped out but a glorious people's commune of All The Ships saved the day, though they took losses from Palpy's Sky Lightning that killed Nien Nunb but apparently no one else. Thankfully, Lando was able to martial them in the few hours remaining between his recruitment and Palpatine's 16 hour deadline at the beginning of the movie to unleash his fleet of planet killers.
But, as noted, that fleet of planet killers, Palpy, the First Order, the last vestiges of the OT... all wiped out. Star Wars is a totally blank slate. We have Rey, We have Finn. We have Poe. We have Rose. We have Chewbacca and Maz Kanata. Go forth and create a new Star Wars tale from what we've been graciously left by the sequel trilogy.
One rule: no "Rey founds a New Jedi Order which is betrayed from the inside by her most powerful apprentice who then defects to a burgeoning group of First Order/Sith cultists to lead them in a bloody vengeful assault upon the new democratic government installed by the last trilogy's heroes."
