In the Beginning is a Build & Destroy scenario set on a very simplistic forest. Its main 'feature' is a massive lake filled with fish in the middle of the map. Normally, this would be a good resource for players to battle over, but this lake is ultimately useless for a number of reasons.

Firstly, the entire lake - as well as your base - is blocked in by a massive wall of trees. You won't be leaving your corner until you either have aircraft or amass a ton of workers to grind through the treeline. By this point, you've probably gained enough food through farming and foraging the vast amount of fruit bushes you are given to sustain yourself without it.

Second, even if you do manage to break through the treeline to the lake, you aren't going to be catching many fish. The entire lake is made of the medium-depth water terrain instead of shallow, meaning you cannot place a shipyard on it. This in turn means you cannot construct Utility Trawlers, and the hundreds of fish jumping around in the center are completely unobtainable. The best you can do is have your Workers pick at the fish closest to the shoreline.

You are given the arbitrary objective of protecting 4 heroes, but there's no consequence for losing any of them.

Balance: 2
I mentioned earlier that your entire base is bordered by trees. Well, this applies to the enemies as well. Each enemy player is given their own isolated block of land filled with resources. Because the AI isn't too bright when it comes to the use of transports, they simply build within their block of land and never attack with anything other than Fighters/Bombers. You are given plenty of time to build up an army to steamroll the opposition, who offer little to no resistance.

Creativity: 2
A neat idea, but one that falls flat in its execution. The theme of the map is similar to the Nova Assault/Nova Lake random maps; a large supply of resources in the center that players must fight for dominance over. But because of the difficulty in actually getting to the lake, the abundance of food from other sources, and the incompetence of the map design, there's no reason at all to fight for it.

Map Design: 2
The base terrain consists of flat grass covered in large Nova, Ore, and fruit bush deposits. The clumps of trees surrounding you are an odd combination of Palms and Oaks. Not very challenging, or nice to look at.

Story/Instructions: 1
Aside from the (inaccurate) objectives, there is no information in any of the briefing menus.

Additional Comments:
A potentially great idea that fails in almost every way imaginable. Playing the Nova Lake random map will give you the intended experience of this scenario.
