Review Of Return Of The Jedi by Wok.
When I downloaded this, I was concerned that I would not be able to understand any of it, knowing that it was in portugeese. I did manage to play the campaign completely, but this did not make up for my lack of enjoyment with it.
Playablility 3
Not bad for the author's first try. Some of the levels (especially the Endor ones) were very poor, and were little more than walking in a slightly curved line killing enemies. Others, however, showed the author's potential to create better scenarios with some practice. He managed to make a few decent cut-scenes, and if he learns some more scenario designing skills, he will be well on his way to becoming a good designer.
Balance 1
Not one of the levels was in any way challenging. There were a few times in the last level and the level with Jan Dodonna when I almost bit the dust, butapart from that, far too easy. In particular, the levels se on Tatooine were too easy and consisted of very few enemies. More work needs to be put in, and I suggest that the author plays some scenarios with good balance, like Falcon's First Flight and Shadows Of The Empire.
Creativity 1
There was absoloutly nothing in any of these scenarios that has not been done before in other FF/RPG titles. At a few points I was hopeful for a boss battle fo some sorts with the Sarlacc and Rancor, but I got nothing. This campaign just fades into the crowds, with nothing to make it stand out. Again I suggest that you play Shadows Of The Empire and Falcon't First Flight for some pointers for boss battles, and other creative elements.
Map Design 3
The map design in this campaign varied greatly. In the early Tatooine scenarios and in the late space ones, the map was fairly good and (in my mind) deserved a 4. However, the Endor levels were just rows of trees on top of grass. Nothing else. This deserves a 1. I have decided to give the author the benefit of the doubt and round it to 3. With some more practice at scenario designing, I can see the author making some very nice looking maps in the future.
Story/Instructions 2
I didn't feel in the position to review the instructions for this level, as they were in a language that I do not speak. I have marked the instructions based on the average of the other catagories, so as not to upset the score.
Overall, a fairly poor camapign by recent standards, but with some work, the author could potentially become quite skilled. Keep designing and I look forward to your next campaign!
Signing off,
