9th Squad [Updated: 12/31/15]

Author File Description
File Details
Clone Campaigns required?: Yes
Style: Role Playing Only
Number of scenarios: 8
Many of you heard about Karen Traviss. Many of you played "Republic Commando". This campaign is about Clone Commandos. However, this is not about famous Delta, Omega, Alpha and others. I decided that this squad must take the name of the biggest one-number - nine. Also, you will meet the 11th, 25th, 50th and 75th Commando Squads here as well as:
- the 36th Battalion
- the 4th Legion
- Wookies
- Trandoshans
- Geonosians
- Confederation
- Jango Fett...
...and many others.

Updated 12/31/15: After years I decided to improve my campaign - every scenario. I also added one more scenario.

Alright, it's been a while since I've given a review so be warned.

Playability: 3

The triggering was fine but it could have been better. I did win and all that but I'll admit that the outright victory or defeat was kind of boring.

Balance: 4

I'll admit that a few of the missions certainly were challenging, take for instance when you fight the tuskan raider in the first mission - he's half dead but he can take out any of your men with a couple of shots if you let him. A few of the other missions were a tad unbalanced unfortunatly. For instance(Yes, I know that this is a commando mission and most often there like this) most of the missions had you killing the upside of eighty enemies with zero casualties. It's tough sometimes but it should be tougher.

Creativity: 3

Republic Commando missions are in short supply in my opinion... Oh well, to be honest I thought maybe a couple of boss fights might be fun, it definatly needed cutscenes. Still, with what you had it wasn't to terrible. For once in the world waiting to be healed by medics wasn't a pain, your men could be healed in a few seconds (a good and bad sign). The objectives were pretty bland though, (at least in my opinion).

Map Design: 3

The scenery wasn't terrible - it could have been a lot better. I'll be generous and give it a three because it's a sight better than most missions I've played where the person just edited a generated map.

Story/Instructions: 2

To be honest I was lost, I didn't know what I was supposed to do most of the time. The later missions were improved but (the 'Training' mission mainly) needed a lot of work, after I used the medic - as directed - I walked around a little bit hoping to trigger something off. Finally I find Jango Fett and I just kind of follow him around.

Additional Comments:

Not a bad campaign, but it needs work. You should probably learn how to add bitmaps to your missions - that empty space was bothering me. Another thing, controling all the guys is fine I guess but it might be better to just control one of them, it would mean more work though. Also I think you should learn to use AI(it's tough at first - I just figured it out because I extracted the Half Life demo and examined the triggers). Overall I think that you've got hope, I'm so sure that I'm inviting you to join Ranger Studios(a very small design group with only about four members) you may not be interested but if you are you can just leave a comment.
