Republic Commando - Enhanced

This is an enhanced version of jordynator's commando trooper. You can train the commando at the Republic fortress.


The commando has six weapons:

  • Blaster: General-purpose weapon.

  • Sniper Rifle: Long range. Instant kill vs infantry and workers.

  • Repeater: Rapid fire. Short range.

  • Rocket Launcher: Bonus vs mechs.

  • Thermal Detonator: Blast radius. Bonus vs buildings, walls and gates.

  • Jetpack: Move quickly over any terrain. No attack.

    To switch weapons, click the Next Weapon icon: , or type hotkey P.

    Strong Points

  • Commandos have hero status, so they heal automatically, and they can't be turned.

  • They have a personal shield generator, for extra protection.

  • All weapons get +1 range when you research Hvy Weapons Engineers.

    Weak Points

  • Commandos won't attack enemy units unless you order them to.

  • You can't garrison a commando inside a building or a transport.

  • Commandos are vulnerable to mech destroyers.

    Side Effects

  • The cannon is unavailable for all civs.

    The graphics were OK, they looked a bit like they were made in paint, but then again not everyone can afford professional modelling programmes. The Jetpack animation was very good, and the shadow was just the right size. As for the projectiles used, you chose very well, but I would have used the Decimators green beam for the sniper. Apart from that, the graphics were good.

    Genie Editing: 5
    The Genie edits were superb. Very nice work here, Bob, I was able to select my weapon with ease. You also included a new icon, which is a plus point, but it would have been nice if you could have included some sounds from the game. It's cool that you can build the Commando at a fortress as well. I certainly wouldn't be able to do that. :P

    Usefullness: 4
    This mod is useful for a Clone Wars scenario, and Republic Commandoes were deployed literally all over the galaxy for stealth missions. However, because the Clone Wars was only a 3 year period of a 2000+ year timeline, I can't give a five here. Also, there is a bug where you cannot task the unit using triggers if they do not belong to player one.

    This just straight up OWNs dude! The fact of switching weapons for more squad like combat is amazing, and also the fact that they have their own class and Picture is great too!

    One of the best mods out there. I liked the range of weapons, and it's abilities.

    Additional Comments:
    I think you should set it to 76 in the genie editor, in other words, make it a Shielded Stealth Stealth-Detector unit. That would make it perfect. [That's what I did to mine :)]
