REVENGE OF THE SITH
by LooneyRabbit2005
Ultimate Lightsaber Duel
This is the demo of my Revenge of the Sith Campagian, and isn't a bunch of cruddy rubbish like the other 100 ROTS campagians coming out recently. I was the 5th to start one of these. Put the sounds in the sound/scenario folder, and the cpn file in the campagin folder.
Also, this isn't 100% complete, there will be a new bitmap and a few more things you can do in the full version of ROTS.
The background music is downlaodable from the Omni Designs website.

Playability: 3
Well, I look at playability different ways. The first way, of course, is was it playable, which is yes. Now comes the question how playable was it. Only the beginning was a cutscene, and the rest was pure action, however, it is possible to stay at the beginning area and have the whole scenario play through the 4 parts. This seems like something that would hamper the game a bit.
Balance: 2
Well, some parts are easy, particularly with the droids, however, the distribution of force points makes it near impossible to have full health for each fight, and occasionally, I find myself dying for what seems like no reason (off screen Anakin force chokes already hurt Obi-Wan before I can use my health taunt). All the little extra enemies you face are no concern, the only concern is Anakin in this demo, and he does the most damage. However, the fights with Anakin seem less like "Fight to kill him" and more like "Survive until he decides to runaway."
Creativity: 3
Though nothing in this scenario is too new, like Force powers and what not, I feel creativity also marks the use of the Force Powers and the availability of Force powers. Unfortunately, the only powers given are Force Stun (which seems to work on all enemies) and Force Heal, which does a poor job of healing, even though it wastes 5 of your very valuable Force Points. Anakin's Force powers seem more diverse, and it makes me wish that I could quite possibly use the Force Push before Anakin has the chance to.
Basically, it was sort of creative with Anakin's use of Force Powers, but the lack of anything extremely creative (like using crates before Anakin can or something) is absent. It is just two generic powers that seem to waste away your Force Power.
Map Design: 4
The map was pretty good, if not a very small map compared to the very large scale buildings we saw during the movie Episode III. I feel that the map could be made better if it was bigger, and if that you weren't forced into these extra fights with other enemies.
Story/Instructions: 3
Well, the instructions were simple, explaining what the 2 taunts did, and the 'master heal.' But it also mentioned the lava droids that they ride on, however, that part was completely absent from the scenario.
The story followed the plot of the movie a bit, up until Anakin starts choking Padme, and then the designer jumped right into the duel, instead of going through all the Obi-Wan/Anakin pep talks. I subtract a point for that, because since we can't judge on how original the story is, I judge on how TRUE it is to the original story. An important part was taken out by not including those bits of dialogue.
Additional Comments:
Well, it was definitely more enjoyable than other DoM scenarios out there, but is still open for some serious improvement, and I'm sure by the time of its release it will be much much better.

Playability: 3
Hmm, for me the playability wasnt great here it was kind of like hack him for a while lose half your health then he walked on, it was all just a bit crazy and fast paced. What i would have done would be have duel bits but in between have puzzle rpg style bits where you have to find him again, or something along those lines.
Balance: 2
Didnt think the balance was too great, a bit on the hard side. I found that the problem was you could hack him for a while but then he would use "Dark Revive". Also i thought that the force stun should have frozen him for longer as you only got a couple of slashes at him before he was unfrozen.
Creativity: 4
One of the good parts of the map was creativity it used lots of this with the force powers and what not. Knocked it down a mark though because there could have been more like rpg parts and more playable parts where there would be room for puzzles.
Map Design: 3
Map design was ok, you were obviousely restricted by the fact there werent many darker looking objects for the walls and stuff, and i didnt think the trade fed buildings really worked. but the layout seemed good.
Story/Instructions: 2
It wos ok, i meen it stuck to the story and the idea of a completely different ending to the star wars saga for when you were defeated was cool. However i would have liked a bit more instructions on how to kill him and more about what was going on, like every so often it would say part3 or something and hed run off for a while and i'd get confused and run around like a headless chicken :p.
Additional Comments:
I was kind of sucky at this level so didnt enjoy it much but hey thats my opinion. |

Playability: 3
Fun to Play-Yes
Easy to Play-Yes
Could have been better with less fight run off stuff
Balance: 2
Sometimes it was really hard but other times I played it was easy.
Creativity: 3
I can't give it to much creativity since it was based off ROTS and it was similar to lots of other ROTS DoM levels.
Map Design: 3
It was good, but could use some more eye candy
Story/Instructions: 3
I liked the new ending but the level could be explained better.
Additional Comments: A good level but V3 better be better.

LooneyRabbit2005's Ultimate Lightsaber Duel isn't so Ultimate :p but this scenario is drastically better than all Episode III dog shit campaigns here, so Looney did a good job on being the first who released a decent EpIII level.
Playability - 3
It was fairly interesting to play, but it was, somewhat, one-typish. Attack Anakin (or some droids, if needed), and use Force Heal when needed, nothing more, I can say. I suggest you to add more Force Powers and make places that a strategy is needed, or something, though it would be hard considering the small size of the Mustafar base you've made here.
Balance - 2
It was too easy. Even with Anakin using all variety of his Force Powers, all enemies that I've met, I died only once: when I've ancidently was in the way of a crate which Anakin Force Pushed. And it is very possible to beat almost more than half of fights withour fighting with Anakin... that's not so good, so I suggest you making some looping triggers that each, like, 10 seconds Anakin attacks Obi-Wan.
Creativity - 3
Well, Looney did a pretty good job thinking of Anakin's Force Powers, but I can't say the same for Obi-Wan. Then, he used clones on Mustafar, and some Dark Jedi Adepts. While I don't find fighting Dark Jedi that strange, actually, Clones on Mustafar... a bit contradicts to the story, but I was somewhat glad that you not needed to fight only Anakin.
Map Design - 3
Pretty good map, I can say, not a lot better than a Random one, though. The base was a little too bland, and the Mustafar surface... lava and volcanic rock, with one tile of elevated surface. It is not that bad, really, Looney did put some effort into it.
Story\Instructions - 4
Well, the story followed the movie pretty close, and instructions were clear, I never had a problem with thinking what to do and where to go, though the cutscenes have disappointed me a bit.
Overall - 3
A nice scenario, LooneyRabbit's debut one. Not so good, but the designer did put some effort into it, and I think we all must face that this is the best Episode III scenario released at the moment of writing this review. ;) :p Maybe it will not be in peoples' campaign folder forever, but at least worth trying it once. Anyway, Looney, this is a nice scenario, and I wish you to improve your skills! |
