Metropolis Maps by RF_Gandalf

Metropolis-Land and Metropolis-Sea are 2 new random maps for SWBG with a common theme. The theme is derived from the ES@Metropolis map for AOK - each player starts with 3 sets of CCs, 3 sets of workers and 3 scout bikes. Each CC has a lot of resources around it, so the maps have more than the usual starting resources. The "sea" version is much like the original ES map, with a central sea slightly smaller than in the standard Sea or Large Sea maps, and the players are scattered around the sea. Each player's 3 CCs are grouped together but on higher player number games they will be quite close to other players as well. The "land" version has no central body of water so land unit attacks can be more direct, but is otherwise the same.

Action is fast and furious from the start, trying to manage resource and worker flow from 3 CCs simultaneously while scouting and planning your offensive and defensive strategy. You do NOT want to play this map on 'fast' speed!

What can you do on these maps? Try sending one or more of your scout bikes to find & steal nerfs/banthas near your enemy or harrass their workers (this last might take too much micro-management time to be worthwhile). You can obviously continue making workers from 2 CCs while you advance in Tech Level. You can advance in Tech Level extremely quickly on this map. If you get your resources coming in quickly, you can attack very early if you want to. Most of all, these maps are just plain fun and exciting.

How do you start out on these maps? First, you do not want to queue up all of your workers from one CC; use the hot keys: H-A-H-A-H-A-H-A, and grab the workers from one CC to start making prefab shelters (not just one!). Get your 3 scouts working ASAP, and you should have each keyed to a number to be able to find them quickly and keep them moving. The workers from the other 2 CCs should go on whatever free food you can find ASAP, with your CCs all set to send the workers to food. As soon as you get a stream of food coming in to keep all 3 CCs in constant worker production, then collecting carbon is the next essential. After the carbon by your CCs is exhausted, you might want to get 2 (or even all 3) CCs then set to have the gather point on a carbon collection site in common, rather than immediately spending your carbon on a couple of processing centers. Maps that are low in food are real tough since you have to get a lot of farms going sooner without the benefit of free food to start.

As with most of my map scripts, these have a number of randomly chosen terrain patterns (but none with snow terrain on these). The food resources are randomized like on the other standard maps for the game. There tends to be a lot of fish on the "sea" version, so consider getting fishing geared up on that map.

The 'sea' map was updated 4/28/02 to eliminate the 'Gungan bug' which could place very large fish on the Gungan CCs.

Feedback appreciated. Enjoy!
