SOTE Evolution Demo

Author File Description
Scn Jedi
File Details
Clone Campaigns required?: Yes
Number of scenarios: 2
Based on the popular comic, this is the first two scenarios of Shadows of the Empire Evolution. These scenarios are incomplete. I still need to add eye-candy and some more triggers. I'll update the file when I have done so.

Playability: (2) The playability of this campaign was very poor, the first scenario was a small cutscene with a couple of triggers which managed to confuse me with the plot already. Also, when the characters talked in thias cutscene, the diaglogue only lasted a couple of seconds so i had to run it on slow speed to read it all. The second scenario was even worse, there were 3 units in a swamp and you basically had to stand and shoot it, not much of a boss battle at all.

Balance: (3) The balance should scrape in on a 4 because the playable scenario (boss battle) was not easily won if the player stood and exchanged blows with Snoova, if the player went and got the tank however, it was far too easy, so i marked it down to 3.

Creativity: (2) Creativity scored a 2 because there were no re-name triggers at all, yet the creator did manage to include an intro cinematic using harder triggers to work with. The map design was just placed in blocks, nothing creative regarding any of the categories.

Map Design: (2) The reviewing guide tells me i should give a random map a 3, but these maps were not as good as random maps. Just chunks of terrain. The boss battle was very poor map design and featured a huge clump of ordinary shallows with thick walls of twisted trees around the edge. No gaia units or eye candy pieces were made use of either, there is a lot of work to be done in this category.

Story/Instructions: (3) The story is based on the comic. But it was very confusing, and the strangest part about it was the boss battle, all of a sudden there was a wookiee in a swamp with me, there should be more of a subtle approach to introducing the characters and parts of the plot.

Overall this campaign needs lots and lots of improvement, hopefully this review will help the deisgner when it comes to releasing the full campaign. Keep working at it.

This is a very quickly brought together demo. I do not recomend this except for the mildly creative demo.

Playability 2: The 2nd scenereo is playable but I would hardly call it fun or interesting. You take the tank and kill the wookie. That is the entire scenereo. . . .

Balance 2: If you don't know about the tank it can leave you wondering how to kill the wookie but once you know about it its very hard to lose.

Creativity 3: The cutscene was ok but there were no name changes. Actually the cutscene was very nice compared with the playability.

Map design 1: I find the map even more horrid then the other reviewer. Oh heck there could at least be a path.

Stoy/Instructions 2: The story was interesting because I had just played the very popular dash rendar campaign but the instructions were strange. I don't even remember why I was in a swamp.

Overall: I would not recommend this campaign. Good cutscene but next time make it more playable. And to the creator try making name triggers.
