Me neither. I also read somewhere that Hugo Weaving and Michael Fassbender were being considered for the role. And they got this guy...

A part of me would love to see Sir Ben Kingsley as the villain. Most of me realizes that, like Sir Christopher Lee, Kingsley is way too good for Star Wars.

Too bad last time Sir Ben Kingsley was portrayed as the 'villain' we got the worst Ironman (if not the worst Avengers series) film to date.

The last time I saw him as a villain was Prince of Persia, where, as usual for Disney, he was the only...well, Asian on set. I was going to say Arab, connecting him with Jafar, but Kingsley is (half) Pakistani. At any rate, he was one of the few redeeming aspects of an otherwise bland film.
Unless you count his role in Hugo or Ender's Game as villainous--which I personally wouldn't. I should rewatch Hugo sometime soon...

Hey, at least it wasn't a piece of shit like gazillion other movies based on games I enjoyed watching it once, though I don't think I'd ever really want to rewatch it.

Oh, I'm not saying Prince of Persia was bad. It was entertaining but forgettable. And mildly racist, but that seems to be par for the course for Disney's non-animated films. *glares at The Lone Ranger*

I have to admit that the AC games have struck me as much stronger on gameplay than story--or at least that story is so interwoven with gameplay, that making a movie out of it does seem...dubious. But I haven't played any of them and AC3 only caught my interest because the NA main character and the actual interest in accurately portraying the Mohawk.

AC is very heavily narratively focused. Admittedly, the level of the narrative varies (not only between games but between the modern day and historical segments), but for example in case of AC1, its ambiguity and philosophy are the game's strongest point, there's definitely movie material in it.

I've never played it... but from what I've seen, I expected it to be more gameplay-oriented than anything else. Like a medieval GTA.
And that's not a slight; I love playing Vice City. I just don't see it making a good movie on its own.

Not to dismiss GTA, but I don't like it, and I don't think I would've liked AC if it were medieval GTA Here's one of my favourite dialogue excerpts from the first game. Not sure if it will make sense without the context of the things that happened and the targets that we assassinated (and what we learned about them and also their point of view from them, which is very important actually), but I think this excerpt's enough to show that narrative (and philosophy, though the second one is less true in the case of AC2 and ACB, it's a lot more black and white in those particular games) is kinda important in AC.
Al Mualim: What is the truth? Altair: We place faith in ourselves. We see the world the way it really is, and hope that one day all mankind might see the same. Al Mualim: What is the world then? Altair: An illusion. One we can either submit to, as most do, or transcend. Al Mualim: What is it to transcend? Altair: To recognize nothing is true and everything is permitted. That laws arise not from divinity, but reason. I understand now that our creed does not command us to be free. It commands us to be wise. Al Mualim: Do you see now why the Templars are a threat? Altair: Where as we would dispel the illusion, they would use it to rule.

My feelings exactly.
Actually, all the main characters have been good. A lot of people dislike Connor from AC3, and while he is my least favourite so far, he's certainly not a bad character - he has a lot going for him. I don't dislike him, I just don't like him as much as the rest. I'm leaning towards Edward being my favourite at the moment, but maybe that's just because he's been the one I've played as most recently.

Though not related to the how good the character is, Connor certainly has the most bad-ass story trailer dedicated to him out of all others
Actually, I always loved Ezio's story trailer as well, even though it's quite simple... (but then again, Ezio's story in AC2 is fairly straightforward)
... Okay, Edward's got a badass story trailer too.
If there's something Ubi knows how to do, then it's how to make awesome trailers Which reminds me, AC4 has a very awesome Pirate Heist trailer. Even though the game is very different in style and tone (and, well, the story is incredibly different from the one that's implied in the PH trailer), the trailer itself is really cool.

While I haven't played 3, I do know the story. Personally, I think they missed a huge opportunity with how they could have handled the plot of that one (as far as in Animus goes).
I mean, they could have easily turned the American Revolution into a major confrontation between the Assassins and Templars (them taking up arms with the Army of the United Colonies and British Army respectively). Oh well. Too late now.
Also, *SPOILERS* (just in case) I don't believe Desmond is dead.
