So, a thought occurred to me as I tried to fall asleep... you know how in Force Commander and EaW, the AT-AT barges deploy the walker through a ventral hatch, and then the AT-AT rises up and is ready to go?
So... how do they get the walkers in there... on the Star Destroyer?

Despite how Force Commander makes it look, they probably load them up planetside first. If not...Well the hangar bay on an ISD IS pretty damn big.

Yeah, but the whole point is the hangar is too small to fit larger barges that deploy them standing up. So, it's not like they can fly the barge OVER the walker and then drop onto it. But it can't walk into it, either, because it's stored kneeling... so it can't walk.

I figure they load them up on the ground, then shuttle them up to the destroyer.
My question is how the hell AT-STs manage to load and fit into Sentinels...

They can probably load up inside a Star Destroyer because AT-ATs can do this:
Quoted from Wookieepedia:
An AT-AT unloaded its troops by kneeling to three meters above ground level until the boarding ramp could extend outward.

Well, they have to load them on the Star Destroyer, because if they're only carried aboard the transports... maintenance and boarding would be a nightmare. But if they're carried on the ship free... how do they get it into the dropship?
Just because the walker can kneel to drop troops from its own ramps (I think we posted a picture of that a while back) doesn't have anything to do with stuffing it into the dropship somehow. I mean, does the walker squat down and they hover the ship over it and then drop down, clamp up the walker, and close the floor? That would make a good Kenner concept, so it's already halfway to canonization.

The Titan is big enough to WALK into. The Theta isn't. And... seriously, you can't see why they wouldn't hover at 15 meters above the deck in a large transport, open the ventral hatches, drop the ship down and scoop the walker up like the intro to New Super Mario Brothers?
Again, we're talking about SW, so... you know, it's already halfway to canon. But... it's too comical.

I disagree, because if it were... it should logically (again, we're talking SW... I know I've already put a foot in quicksand) carry the Y85 Titans, then. To hover a transport ship over a kneeling walker would require more height than the transport that carries them standing. But according to Doctor Curtis "omg isd beatz enterprise" Saxton... ISDs are too small to carry those transports. Their launch bays can't clear them.
And since he said that in official guidebooks, I want to know how ISDs load Theta barges with walkers.

How would it need more height than the Titan if the AT-AT is already kneeling? It just needs enough room to clear the top of the walker.

Right. And I'm pretty sure an AT-AT's carried position is still more than half the normal height. Admittedly, there's no numbers on it; I guess if you could check FC's intro cutscene or animation sequences... but even that would be a less-than-ideal source.
Basically, I'm convinced that the height of the lander plus the height of the knelt walker is more than the standing height of the walker, at least, if not higher than the full-sized transport. Hence my question: if it can't fit the big one... how does the little one load in such a way as to make it not exceed the limit. The easy answer is "front loading ramp"... but then the AT-AT has to walk in and it can't. Unless, perhaps the ramp extends horizontally... the walker steps onto it and lowers, and then the ramp is retracted.
But basically, coming up with a solution that is neither ridiculous nor comical to picture is proving tricky for me. AND IT IS WHY SW CAN BURN AND I WILL REMAKE IT IN A NEW GALAXY WITH AWESOMENESS

Too damn bad. You opened it up
Alright, now that looks like a rather sizable area. Now, picture the walker kneeling down, just from the way things look, the Theta could totally clear that no problem.
But yes, I too would prefer numbers, but the constant belittling of what I grew up watching is kinda pissing me off so I'll take what I can get
AND IT IS WHY SW CAN BURN AND I WILL REMAKE IT IN A NEW GALAXY WITH AWESOMENESS

And the idea of the Ewoks would work... if it wasn't there for George Lucas' furry and midget fetishes. I understand the Wookiees had been technological, and he wanted "primitives." I just don't think it was carried off right. And Gungans... well, really, only Jar Jar is the problem. And even he's not as critically disastrous--to me--as the usual fanbase reaction.
And, for what's worth, there are Gungan and Ewok analogs in my sci-fi thing.

IMO, Zahn represents pretty much the best of SW--which is kinda sad, because he's really a so-so writer who has good ideas but gets obsessed with his overly-intelligent pet characters like Jade and Thrawn (both of whom were good characters before he Mary Sue'd the crap out of them).

Yes, that.
It's telling that he's a fourth-string EU short-story writer in the Honorverse.
Truthfully, though, I don't know which parts of ME3 Mac wrote. I've never sampled anything he's done outside of it as far as I know. You say he trashed the ending, okay then. I enjoyed it the first time... though I'll confess the emotional impact is much decreased if you know which way you're going at the end and you're not really stuck making a choice. I imagine further playthroughs might allow for an even more critical look at it... but that doesn't change that, the first time I finished ME3, I was moved to tears. And I don't cry at anything; I didn't even cry during all the stock sad parts in Disney movies when I was little. The end of At All Costs in the Honor Harrington series some months before was the closest I'd gotten, and even then that was just a lump in the throat and mild pressure behind the eyes.
So, I don't know how good he is and I can't honestly compare him to Zahn, Weber, Allston, Anderson, McIntyre, Seuss... that's just to tweak your nose. But no amount of analysis or criticism is ever going to change how I reacted that first time finished the Mass Effect series.
