Interesting turn of events, and quite frankly, I'm glad to see Filoni involved.
Perhaps an older Ahsoka Tano will appear in this series.
I personally hope they try to take a more series tone with the series, but some how the doubt of that eats away more than the Jar Jar Binks episodes of Clone Wars ever could. The Disney ownership is giving us new movies, the partnership with EA will give us new games; the next couple of years will determine whether or not we actually wanted any of it.
Whoa.

I'm just gonna pick and choose my own canon, and make it work
And I like Thrawn. However, I haven't read the most recent novels he's been in. I still love the Thrawn Trilogy though

I'd say Into Darkness was mildly above Empire and light-years above the Thrawn trilogy. Zahn...does not improve with age. Or close inspection.

Well, under that classification, I am fully prepared to offer Mr. Zahn a laurel crown. But comparing him with non-Star Wars authors puts him at a terrible disadvantage.

Then...you really need to read better books. Might I recommend Jane Austen? Henry James? Edith Wharton? F. Scott Fitzgerald? J.R.R. Tolkien? Want something older? Sir Gawain and the Green Knight? Mallory's Morte Darthur? Newer, you say? Sue Harrison? That's about the extent of my knowledge of contemporary authors, I'm afraid.

If you had said, fair-to-middling it would be less controversial.
Don't read Zaarin's stuffed shirt stuff.
But it improves your mind and allows you to think about universal themes--and write really cool papers! Oh, and if you read Jane Austen, it allows you to laugh endlessly at her sharp wit! And no one disses Sir Gawain because it is awesome (Pearl is also wonderful, but not quite as exciting).
Also, Sue Harrison isn't stuffy. It has sex in it...

The phrase "improve the mind" immediately makes me think of the Donald Duck propaganda cartoon "Der Fuehrer's Face," wherein a Nazi soldier thrusts a copy of Mein Kampf into Donald's face at the end of a bayonet, with the command, "Here! Impwoof ze mind!"

@ Cheapy: Loved the link.
@ Zaarin: I'd rather read the Thrawn Trilogy then a series about how some dumb broad who failed at leading what remained of the Empire (who ADMITTED she can't lead) becomes the new galactic leader...AND STILL CAN'T LEAD!
Or I could read about how Anakin Skywalker destroys a Separatist capitol ship by taking out the bridge in his FIGHTER.
I could site more, but I don't want this to sound like I'm trying to pick a fight with you. In short, I'd rather read the Thrawn Trilogy than any of the other SW books that were written. And I don't understand the listing of the classics. Obviously the TT wouldn't measure up to them. Never said they would. I just called them good. So I'm kinda confused there

Well, that's just moronic and honestly, they even managed to f**k up the only reason to set her in power: create another dictator for the big damn heroes to cast down and kill off. Because they couldn't manage it THIRTY YEARS BEFORE.
Or I could read about how Anakin Skywalker destroys a Separatist capitol ship by taking out the bridge in his FIGHTER.
We're expected to believe Han Solo dropped an Executor class ship with a freighter... a year before the Battle of Sluis Van where it was stated the Falcon's weapons could not worry a captured Nebulon-B frigate with no shields.
At least Anakin has lots of Forciness or something.
In short, I'd rather read the Thrawn Trilogy than any of the other SW books that were written.
I've read non-SW books that were better SW books than SW books.
...Kinda like how Abrams' first Star Trek is a way better SW movie than anything personally helmed by George Lucas.

Well, sure, that's a given. But Cray, Moff, and I all stated we'd stopped thinking highly of him after reading good books--and you asserted that his works are good. So yes, in the realm of Star Wars...um, "literature" for a lack of better term, yes, he's good. But compare him with non-SW authors and his perceived quality plummets drastically. I stopped reading Star Wars after being disappointed by Allegiance. :/
Right now I'm reading The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James! James isn't my absolute favorite author, but I feel there's a lot I can learn from him, so I'm reading him. Honestly, I prefer Edith Wharton, though many feel that James eclipses her. The Custom of the Country is absolutely hilarious.

When did we start comparing Star Wars to other literature instead of judging it based off its own merits? By your logic all of the original trilogy films are rubbish because Citizen Kane is so much better.
I'm not saying Zahn is ****ing Shakespeare, I'm saying I enjoyed (Most of) his Star Wars books because they're exactly what I love about Star Wars: action space opera fantasy adventure. I don't give a rat's ass about its value as a work of literature, all I'm concerned with is its entertainment value because that's all it was intended to do: entertain. It doesn't carry a message, it's not commenting on an aspect of society or the human condition, it's not meant to explore the ramifications of science fiction. It is a story about a dude with a laser sword and magic powers who beats up bad guys, and that's good enough for me.
Kindly dismount from your high horses and stop acting snooty just because I'm a fan of pulp. I have read actual literature, you know, being a creative writing student and all.

I like you Cheapy. I really do... but I have to say, what's the difference between Zaarin rejecting the idea that Zahn is "good" and the flak people have taken from you and FA for liking ME3? Or Into Darkness? Or magical ponies? <_<
That said... I won't speak for Zaarin, but I suppose I could've been a bit harsh. It's worth noting that I only read the complete Zahn trilogy well into my decline in enjoyment for all things SW. It created a brief bump.
Of course, then they butchered Mara and Thrawn into superbeings that make John Harrison look like an infant. Before you take Force powers into account, in Mara's case. <_<
