Welcome to Expanding Fronts
Star Wars Galactic battlegrounds: Expanding Fronts is a massive fan-made expansion that brings countless new units, gameplay features, and quality of life improvements to the classic LucasArts strategy game.



New Features
  • New Civilizations! Do battle with two entirely new playable civilizations; the seedy Zann Consortium crime syndicate, and the insectoid Geonosians. Each new civ is fully realized with a unique graphics set, as well as a competetive roster of new units and technologies.

  • New Units and Techs! The standard unit and tech tree roster of each civ has been enhanced with numerous new units and techs, allowing more gameplay options than ever before. Use Transport Mechs to ferry infantry into battle; dominate the skies with the Interceptor; annihilate coastal defenses with Monitors; and much more!

  • New Maps! Expanding Fronts provides players with over a dozen new Random Map scripts, based on various worlds from the Star Wars universe. Over 30 new terrain options, native buildings that provide benefits when captured, and an increase to maximum map size make these settings more unique than anything ever seen before in GB. From the wastelands of Jakku, to the snow-tipped peaks of Alderaan; the galaxy is yours to conquer!

  • Enhanced Scenario Editor! The barriers of the editor have been shattered with countless new enhancements. Off-grid object placement, new terrains, countless new props, and completely new triggers make designing complex and compelling scenarios easier than ever before!

    Those podracers were made way back in 2001 by Ykkrosh, but this is the first time we're showing them in this mod.

    We want to include as much of the good content from the GBH community as possible, in addition to the all new units.

    At this point, we need buildings, mechs, ships, and aircraft designs for the smaller SWGB civs such as the Naboo, Gungans, and Wookiees.

    If everything goes as planned, there will be a new campaign for each civilization. In addition, the stock campaigns are being adjusted to support the new content.

    We'll definitely be needing some level designers as the mod finishes up. I would like to follow the route LucasArts took and have a different team design each campaign, but I doubt we'll ever have enough people for that task.

    In the meantime:

    The details behind these new/old images were posted in the last thread. But I guess everybody was too busy playing grab-ass with SEACKER to notice.

    Neat little story behind these images. I contacted Michael Licht, one of the original artists for SWGB, Battle For Naboo, Jedi Power Battles, Bounty Hunter, and Republic Commando. He allowed us to use various pieces of the early rendered art that he worked on. Many of them were not used in the final game, such as the Academy (which I believe was originally the Monument) and that nifty-looking Spaceport pictured above.

    I'm going to just draw up some military-looking buildings, probably Wookiee and Naboo. I'll leave the team to decide what they're for or whether to use them or not.

    Yep.

    Alright. A big issue we're dealing with is new infantry units. We have very few new troop graphics available, and a huge friggen roster of infantry units to fill. If anybody has quality work to offer, please help us out.

    Having these new infantry is essential in order for many of the new subfactions to properly function.

    Erm... I did this a while ago and never got round to finishing it. It's a Rebel commando with a kind of heavy repeater.

    That... actually looks pretty friggen awesome for a crop-mod. If you can touch up the gun and actually finish it, we can probably put it to use.

    Also, I'd recommend that you upload any images in .PNG format to retain their quality.

    What are we looking at for the infantry units needed? I've got some time on my hands and I can try my hand at making some units. It'd have to be purely graphical work though, cause I'm not very good at any of the other aspects of modding.
