The Scenario Design Help Thread

Greetings, fellow Scenario Designers. I'm just letting you know that the Help Thread has been emptied so that you won't have to shuffle through 25 pages of questions and answers before you ask your questions. Instead, take a look at the Scenario Design Page that Angel AoErat has provided and already posted for us in his other thread, and take a look at everything there is to know about Scenario Design before asking any questions.

Okay, I will try to explain the process in steps:

1. Start up the Visible Starfield (Scenario Editor --> Edit Scenario --> Visible Starfield).
2. Go to "Map Copy" (Terrain --> Map Copy).
3. Select an Area with a Map Revealer (Make sure you use the right one with the right player color).
4. Click on "Copy Selected Map Area".
5. Start up your own scenario (Esc --> Edit Scenario --> Your own scenario).
6. Go to Map Copy.
7. Click on a place on the map where you want the Map Revealer to be.

Now you should have a Map Revealer on a patch of Starfield in your scenario.

You know what ? Creating a scenario (or campaign) is very difficult and complicated. I dreamt that I will create campaing. But when I listen to you, I realise that I can't do this. There is so many to learn !!!. And I know nothing . Well, I think that I have to resign. I'm not able to create satisfying campaign. What do you think about that ? Is it worth ?

Making campaigns is very fun once you know how, but the start can be rough. Just try to make one, and if you don't like it, you don't have to make another. And, if you have any questions, I am sure no one here will mind to answer them (as long as you post them in this thread! )

Dawidos, what you should do is: make a scenario file and test multiple triggers, and master them. This technique helps.

Thnak you Lord Sidious, but I have a question. I read this article, but I cannot copy minus sign to this small box (in Damage Object Effect)

You cannot type "-" into triggers, but you can copy it and paste it on triggers. You have to right-click to paste, though. CTRL does not work. Also, remember that if you click on that effect again, it will reset (if there was a minus sign).

Thank you Astro. Yes, it's working. Thank you very much. But another question. I read article and I made those triigers (according to instruction in the article). But when my unit takes Health Container, its health automatically rise up. I used this AI script for player 3 (in my scenario this player is like player 6 ). What's going on ?

In my scenario there are 3 players. Player 1 is a human player. Player 2 is a computer player (my enemy) and Player 3 is a computer player (my ally) who has AI script. Maybe I have to contact with this Vampire Slayer (does he write post on the forum, is he a member of it ?)

Tevious (TVS) doesn't go to SWGB Heaven anymore, he has moved on to other games. And I think I know what's your problem, maybe the AI isn't good.

How do I change the color of text in a triggered chat message?

Type the color between <> before your message. "<RED>Darth Vader: You don't know the power of the Dark Side!" would look like "Darth Vader: You don't know the power of the Dark Side!".

...well, you get the idea.

You can get the colors yellow, red, blue, orange, grey, green, purple and aqua.

EDIT: Oops, I thought you meant a display instructions trigger. You can only get one color with a send chat trigger, and that's white.

Thanks that will help anyways lol.

But in some MP maps I see at the top when you start the map like "Welcome to this blah ablah map" and the color is yellow, who do I do that?

Also Since the map I am working on is LITC how do I make a trigger so that when I move a unit in a certain it turns it into anothers unit? You know like in all LITC maps.

By "LITC" I assume you mean "Life in the City" type map correct?

To change units, like in Life in the Big City 1\2, you have to use the "Change Ownership" effect along with the "Scroll View" effect.

It should look something like this:

Trigger 1 Enter Building
Condition
Object in Area = "Whatever.."

Effect
Change Ownership "Unit 1" to "Pl 2,3,4 ect.."
Change Ownership "Unit 2" to "Pl 1"
Scroll View "Area where the new unit is"

This is how I did it for Life in the Big City 2. There's another way to do it, but personally I prefer this way.

Object not visible "Unit hijacking the mech"

Units Garrisioned "1 unit inside the mech"

Effect Change Ownership "The mech"
Effect Activate Trigger "Trigger 2 Leave Mech Behind"

Object Visible "Unit that was inside the mech"

Effect Change Ownership "The mech"
Effect Activate Trigger "Trigger 1 Hijack Mech"
